MERCER COUNTY RIGHT TO LIFE SEND-OFF RALLY, JANUARY 21, 2008 Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Montezuma will host this years Send-Off Rally on Monday evening, January 21st beginning at 7:00PM. The Guest Speaker will be finalized during the December meeting and announced in next months Newsletter. Two buses are scheduled to leave from the area and travel through the night to our nations Capital. Everyone is Welcomed to attend this Send-Off Rally to wish those making the trip a safe and successful Mission.
National RTL Rally & March - Washington, D.C. January 22nd, 2008 will mark the 35th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion on demand. This years Rally & March should prove to be very interesting especially since this is a Presidential election year and the Primary will be just a few weeks away. The National RTL Committee is making plans for the annual March for Life, which will be held at our nation's Capital on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008. The March will begin at NOON. At the present time, we have two buses reserved. Gary Borger, Coldwater 678-8538 and Dave Kaiser, St. Henry 678-2569, have again graciously agreed to coordinate the Washington March for Life trip. We are asking that those wishing to join us to please fill out the registration form below and return it to Gary Borger, 806 S. Dogwood Dr., Coldwater, OH 45828 before January 1, 2008 in order to reserve a seat. Payment can be made at a later date. On Monday evening, January 21st, at approx. 8:00PM, our buses are scheduled to depart from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Montezuma, where the Send-Off Rally is being Hosted and travel through the night, arriving in D.C. sometime around 7:30/8:00AM. We plan to do something different again this year. The Ohio RTL has decided not to sponsor a Congressional Breakfast this year because the cost has gotten out of hand. They felt that $40 a breakfast was just too much $$ for their hard working grassroots supporters. They also realize that most of the young people wanted to attend the youth events that were taking place in the morning. Ohio RTL will be hosting an “Open House” at the Holiday Inn Capital at 6th & C St. SW the morning of the March. It will be a place where any Ohioan can stop to get refreshments and have an opportunity to meet some of the other folks from Ohio. They have invited Congressional Staffers and members of Congress as well to visit. Many people have already expressed a desire to attend the Youth Rally Mass for the Unborn, which will be held at the Verizon Center (formerly the MCI Center). Those wishing to attend the Mass will be dropped off while the others will go on to the OHIO RTL’s Open House. Breakfast will be furnished to all making the trip. Eating arrangements are still being worked out. The plans are for our entire group to meet up again at the National Rally point, where those attending will hear from many congressmen sharing words of wisdom before making the long march towards the Supreme Court building. By the way, Mercer County RTL just purchased a new banner, which will make it easier for our people to follow during the March. The cost for the trip will be $65 for adults and $50 for students. As always, we rely heavily on contributions from individuals and organizations to help defray the cost of this trip. Your past generosity has enabled many students from our area the opportunity to participate in a very powerful pro-life experience. We would like to see a good crowd from this area make the trip, however, if you personally cannot join us, please consider helping someone else go in your place.
=====Please return your Registration Form early to assure a seat ===========================

Where do these DEMOCRATIC Candidates Stand on Life Issues?Last month, we informed you on where the Republican Candidates stood on the Life Issues. Now – for the Democratic candidates. How well do you know the candidates that are trying to win the nomination for President?? There are three leading contenders for the Democratic Party.* Hillary Clinton, U.S. Senator from New York. Regarding Stem Cell research, SenatorClinton voted in favor of funding research that requires killing human embryos. According to the Senator, “Let me be very clear; When I am president, I will lift the ban on stem cell research…This is one example of how the President puts ideology before science…And it’s why we’re going to send them packing in January 2009 and return progressive leadership to the White House.”Senator Clinton voted to endorse Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that allows abortion for any reason and she also co-sponsored the “Freedom of Choice Act.” Senator Clinton stated that, “I strongly support Roe v. Wade.” She voted against the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act and stated that “Gonzales v. Carhart marks a dramatic departure from four decades of Supreme Court rulings that upheld a woman’s right to choose.”
* Barack Obama, U.S. Senator from Illinois. Regarding Stem Cell research, Senator Obama voted in favor of funding research that requires killing human embryos. He stated, “Embryonic stem cells can be obtained from a number of sources, including in vitro fertilization…We should expand and accelerate research using the embryos…” Senator Obama also co-sponsored the “Freedom of Choice Act.” He stated, “I have consistently advocated for reproductive choice and will make preserving women’s rights under Roe v. Wade a priority as President.” In another quote, Senator Obama stated, “I am extremely concerned that Gonzales v. Carhart will embolden state legislatures to enact further measures to restrict a woman’s right to choose, and that the conservative Supreme Court justices will look for other opportunities to erode Roe v. Wade.”
*John Edwards, former U.S. Senator from North Carolina. Regarding Stem Cell research, Mr. Edwards stated, “I will do absolutely everything in my power to make sure that America as a nation is funding embryonic stem cell research.” Mr. Edwards also voted to endorse Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that allows abortion for any reason. He claims, “I have always supported a woman’s constitutional right to reproductive choice.” Mr. Edwards voted against the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. He stated, “I could not disagree more strongly with the Gonzales v. Carhart decision…This is a stark reminder of why Democrats cannot afford to lose the 2008 election. These are the three top contenders on the Democratic ticket. All three are very anti-life!
NATIONAL RIGHT TO LIFE MAKES A FORMAL ENDORSEMENT FOR PRESIDENTThe National RTL has formally endorsed Fred Thompson for President. But – not everyone affiliated with them has totally agreed. The Ohio RTL has not endorsed Thompson and has made no plans to endorse any candidate until they feel comfortable with a particular one. The decision to make this endorsement was not Ohio RTL’s, it was National RTL decision only. Any questions, concerns or disagreement about their endorsement should be brought to their attention, 1-202-626-8800. Next year’s Presidential election is critical for our nation and the pro-life movement. The next President will almost certainly have the responsibility of nominating at least one US Supreme court Justice and we need at least one more Justice willing to overrule Roe v. Wade. If a Pro-Roe president is elected, then our path to eliminate abortion will be much more difficult. Many say Thompson, former Senator from Tennessee does not fit the Conservative mold. He has made statements in the past in support of abortion rights. James Dobson of Focus on the Family is not impressed with Thompson and officially opposed him. TWO MAJOR POLLS PUT GOV. MIKE HUCHABEE IN THE LEAD!The Values Voter Presidential Debate and the Values Voters Summit put Mike Huckabee in the lead. He won more votes than all the other candidates combined. Mike Huckabee, Governor of Arkansas, is known as a Conservative Christian. Many generally say that Huckabee would be excellent on crucial issues such as marriage, abortion and support for effective compassion both at home and in Africa. Even Bill Clinton says, “Huckabee is the guy to watch”. Clinton also stated, “He, (Mike Huckabee), is the ‘only dark horse’ that’s got any kind of chance…He’s the best speaker they’ve got.” Newt Gingrich said that “If Huckabee can find the money to finance his campaign, he will be dramatically competitive almost overnight. Some are saying “it’s all or nothing: It’s Huckabee or it’s Hilliary. Those same people are saying the end to abortion on demand is within our grasp; so is the annihilation of every advance we have ever made. Janet Folger with FAITH2ACTION stated, “Huckabee is the man we all need to unite behind. He is strong on the issues that matter most. Past President of Mercer County RTL, Judy Bruns, traveled to Mason, Ohio on 11/19, to hear Mike Huckabee speak at the MARS Hill Academy Christian School near Cincinnati. Bruns had an opportunity to hear him speak recently in Philadelphia. Huckabee is a former Baptist minister, and adamantly pro-life, pro-family, and pro-traditional marriage. Bruns stated, “while Fred Thompson, another pro-life candidate, wants to see the abortion issue go back to the states, Huckabee disagrees. He compares the overturning of legalized abortion to the overturning of slavery when he says that if the attempt to prohibit slavery had been turned over to the states, one state might have allowed no slavery, another state might have allowed a little, another state might not have abolished it at all. Huckabee believes the bottom line is that human life is precious and that abortion must be stopped nationally, in all states.” Bruns, co-founder of the Conservative Educators Caucus and trustee on the board of the pro-life Teachers Saving Children, Inc., sat with a friend, the Vice-President of the Conservative Educators Caucus, in second row seats, right in front of the stage. At Bruns request, a man handed Mr. Huckabee two signed copies of books Bruns had written. Huckabee surprisingly came over to thank her, shook her hand and exchanged a few words. Bruns commented, “His commitment to family values and to the pro-life cause is genuine. He is the only person to have beaten the ‘pro-choice’ Clinton political machinery in Arkansas four times. He is a tremendous speaker who, as he says, hasn’t forgotten his ‘humble roots’.” Many conservatives say that Huckabee is the only one ‘some’ liberals fear to face in a debate. He is an unfaltering advocate for children, born and unborn. To learn more about Mike Huckabee, visit STEM CELL RESEARCH HAS BREAKTHROUGH, 11/20/07Scientists have made ordinary human skin cells take on the chameleon-like powers of embryonic stem cells, a startling breakthrough that might someday deliver the medical payoffs of embryo cloning without the controversy. Laboratory teams on two continents report success in a pair of landmark papers just released. It was a neck and neck finish to a race that made headlines five months ago, when scientists announced that the feat had been accomplished in mice. The “direct reprogramming” technique avoids the swarm of ethical, political and practical obstacles that have stymied attempts to produce human stem cells by cloning embryos. Scientists familiar with the work said scientific questions remain and that it’s still important to pursue the cloning strategy, but that the new work is a major coup. This work represents a tremendous scientific milestone. There is a catch with the new technique. It requires disrupting the DNA of the skin cells, which creates the potential for developing cancer. However, the DNA disruption is just a byproduct of the technique, and experts said they believe it can be avoided. The White House lauded the papers, saying such research is what President Bush was advocating when he twice vetoed taxpayer-funded embryo research. He insisted that medical advances could be made without destroying human embryos.
THE MOVIE “Bella” COMING TO A THEATRE The Award-winning movie “Bella” provides a fresh look at the abortion debate from a loving perspective of a man who learns to have an appreciation for the value of human life. Changing the way the public approaches the issue of abortion is the top goal of the producers of “Bella”, a film that continues to generate a ‘buzz’ a year after its victory at the Toronto International Film Festival. The producers aren’t marketing the film as a pro-life one, though its unspoken message about abortion and the respect for life is crystal clear. If “Bella” does well, the actors & producers have two more pro-life themed movies ready to follow. Go out and see “Bella”. Promote it whenever possible. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * President: Theresa Stammen, 937-738-7046 Address Changes: Ann Schroyer, 678-4785 Vice President: Ruth Rutschilling, 925-5500 Sorting & Labeling: Deb Huelskamp & Volunteers Secretary: Lisa Homan, 419-375-2515 Mailing: Carol Ranley Treasurer: Sue Moeller, 419-925-5410 Newsletter Editors: Sharon Hibner & Janet Gels Mercer Co.
