40 Days of Lent Campaign - March 10th

Several carloads of concerned women traveled to the Kettering Abortion Clinic to fast & pray.  Despite the snowy start in the morning, the afternoon turned out beautiful.

According to Dayton Daily News Staff Writer Tom Beyerlein, approx. 100 people gathered outside the clinic, a clinic they had hoped would be closed by the State Health Department, praying for an end to what one speaker called “the greatest evil our nation is faced with – abortion.  Coincidentally, Dayton’s last remaining abortion clinic almost closed during the campaign.  The Health Department revoked its license, but then the Federal Judge temporarily halted the revocation two weeks later.  Finally, on March 4th, the Department and the Clinic reached an agreement that will keep the Clinic open.

“We thought it was very possible we would be gathering before a closed Clinic, but it was not to be,” stated David Bereit, one of four who founded 40 Days of Life in Texas in 2004.  He called the activists heroes and told them never to lose hope. “With God, all things are possible.”  One of the local organizers said the campaign was our effort to be faithful and to ask God to promote life and end abortion here.  When a woman walks out of an abortion clinic, there’s one person dead and one person wounded.

Ruth Rutschilling, Mercer County RTL President stated that in addition to hearing David Bereit speak, they also heard from Christi Dodson, Director of Dayton RTL, Vivian Koob, Director of the Elizabeth New Life Center and Rachel Califf, coordinator of the Dayton 40 Days of Lent.  The group prayed together and sang songs of praise.  It was a very loving, prayerful and inspirational and motivating day.

H e l p! – Artists needed - IT’S TIME TO REPAIR & REPAINT MCRTL BILLBOARDS

Rick Wagner has coordinated this job for many years.  He is unable to help this year but the work still needs to be done.  So – we need someone to take over for him.  His job was to treat 4x8 sheets of plywood and hang the finished product.  He does have help to do that part.  Also, we need 1 or 2 Artists that would be willing to paint the treated sheets of plywood.  We furnish the supplies and will pay for your time.  We will need your price quote and your ideas for a scene.  Call MCRTL, 678-1348 for more info.

ELECTION ANALYSIS STATES – DON’T LOSE HEART!

For the Republicans, Mike Huckabee is out – John McCain is in.  On the Democratic side – it’s neck & neck!  While McCain stands alone, the Senator acknowledges that his work is just beginning.

When Tom Minnery, from Focus Action was asked if Christians should vote for the lesser of two evils, he explained that politics always involves imperfect people.  “There is no absolutely good candidate ever, on either side, because candidates are human beings, and as long as they’re human beings, there will always be the ‘lesser of two evils’, and that is the choice to make.”

Minnery went on to warn voters to be wary of Obama’s promises.  “Senator Obama scores an absolute zero on issues that are important to values voters.  He is the darling of every national abortion group, the teachers’ union, and the feminist groups.  He’s against the marriage protection amendment.  He’s against the president’s policy on embryonic stem cells.  He’s against teaching abstinence in sex education and he does not even oppose partial-birth abortion.  People need to reflect on that reality before they cast a vote for Obama.

Two leading pro-life attorney’s, Mathew Staver and Benjamin Bull, made it clear that McCain, despite his faults, is significantly preferable to Obama or Clinton.  Staver stated, “We are one breath away at the United States Supreme Court, one breath, one vote away – from overturning Roe v. Wade.  If a pro-life president can nominate another justice or two, it would result in “stopping the killing of 1.5 million children every single year and stopping the slaughter of 50 million children since 1973. Bull stated, “If the election goes the Christian conservative way, we have a chance of overturning Roe v. Wade.”  “We really can’t paint a picture bleak enough to what it’s going to look like if Obama or Clinton is in the White House.”

CATHOLIC DIOCESE URGE SUSAN G. KOMEN RACE FOR A CURE FOR BREAST CANCER to break ties with Planned Parenthood, the nations largest abortion business.  The pro-life office urges groups that fundraise for the breast cancer organization to contact Komen with their objections to its stand on abortion and its involvement with Planned Parenthood.  In 2004-05 annual report, PP showed 9,900 more abortions and 26,000 fewer breast exams.
