Meeting Date:  Due to the Christmas Holiday, our next meeting will be Thursday, January 14, 8:00 PM, Coldwater Community Hospital Meeting Rm. Putting the finishing touches on our Send-Off Rally and the Washington D.C Trip. We have lots to do!  Why not come to see how and what you could do to help!

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

President Judy Forsthoefel conducted her last official meeting during the December meeting.  She has done an Outstanding Job. Thank You Judy for a ‘Job Well Done’.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Marleen Evers was unanimously voted in as our new President.  Marleen and her husband Dan are Dairy Farmers just west of Burkettsville.  They have three daughters; one in college and the other two attend the St. Henry school system.  In addition to helping with the chores around the farm, Marleen is also a CCD teacher at the Catechetical Center in St. Henry and is a Teachers Aid sub for St. Henry Schools.

Marie Heitkamp, Burkettsville, graciously agreed to serve as our Vice President for the upcoming year.  Marie and her husband Steve are the parents of 8 children, 5 married, two in college and a son in the Service.  They also have 13 grandchildren.  Steve works with the family Construction business and Marie is employed at Harry Birt’s Store in New Weston.  She is indeed a busy lady, who still has time to volunteer to serve as one of our officers.  She, too, was unanimously voted in!

Lisa Homan will again serve as our Secretary and Frank Mohlman will serve as our Treasurer.  Congratulations to our Officers.

Those of us involved in the pro-life movement are pleased that we have individuals that are willing to share their time, talents and energy serving our organization.  Working with the pro-life movement is a very rewarding and gratifying experience

MERCER COUNTY RIGHT TO LIFE SEND-OFF RALLY, 1/21/10

The Mercer County Right to Life will host our annual Send-Off Rally on Thursday evening, January 21st, 6:00 PM at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater.  Guest Speakers will be Angie Crider, Celina and Eric Hirschfeld from New Bremen.  Fr. Barry Stechschulte will give the Opening & Closing Prayer.  The annual ‘Friend for Life Award’ will be presented during this service.

Three buses are scheduled to leave from our area after the Rally.  Everyone is welcome to come and wish those traveling to Washington D.C. a safe & successful trip.

MARCH FOR LIFE – WASHINGTON, D.C. 37 YEARS

January 22nd, 2010 will mark the 37th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion on demand.  Most individuals under the age of 30 have never known a day without legal abortion.  This years Rally & March should be very interesting since our President is pro-choice and the new Healthcare bill is awaiting his signature.

The National RTL Committee is in the process of finalizing their plans for the annual March for Life, which will be held at our nation's Capital on Friday, January 22, 2010.  The Rally will begin at NOON with the March to the Supreme Court building following around 1:30.

As of this writing, some seats are still available.  Give Gary Borger a call, 678-8538, before sending in your application to reserve your spot. The registration form was in the November ’09 Newsletter. Payment can be made the evening of the Send Off Rally.

On Thursday evening, January 21st, three buses are scheduled to depart from the Parking Lot at Holy Trinity Church in Coldwater immediately following the Send-Off Rally and travel thru the evening.  Those making the trip are encouraged to listen to the weather reports for the D.C. area.  Dress accordingly and in layers.  Bring comfortable shoes/boots, blanket/pillow, snacks, extra money for dinner and NO Homework.  Students are reminded that even though this is not an official school function, they are expected to follow the same policies as if it were (no drugs, alcohol or tobacco, etc. permitted).

We were able to reserve tickets for the early morning Youth Rally Mass for the Unborn at the Verizon Center.  (1st year tickets have been available.).  We realize that some traveling with us may not wish to attend this Youth Rally Mass, and if that is the case, please let us know and other arrangements will be made in order for us to all meet up again at the Rally site, as we have in the past.

A sack breakfast will be furnished to all making the trip, thanks to the generosity of the Coldwater K of C’s. The buses will travel thru the night, making several stops along the way.  However, we do plan to arrive in D.C. very early and will have plenty of time to eat.

At noon, our entire group will meet up at the National Rally point where we will hear from many congressional and spiritual leaders, sharing their thoughts of wisdom before making the long March towards the Supreme Court building.  At that time, our group plans to visit with Sen. Sherrod Brown before taking the subway trip to our final destination; dinner and the long bus ride home.

The cost for the trip will be $65 for adults and $50 for student.  As always, we rely heavily on contributions from individuals and organizations to help defray the cost of this trip.  Your past generosity has enabled many students from our area the opportunity to participate in a very powerful pro-life experience. We would like to see a good crowd from this area make the trip, however, if you personally cannot join us, please consider helping someone else go in your place. If you are unable to attend the March in D.C., don’t forget that the Christian Station, EWTN will cover the Rally and March.

The HealthCare Bill passes:  During an early Saturday morning snowstorm in D.C., the much-debated Healthcare bill was finally passed.  If this legislation becomes law with it’s phony abortion language, it will entangle the American taxpayer in the financing of abortion in a way that has never occurred before.  The federal government will force us to subsidize private health insurance plans that cover abortion, resulting in the largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade.

During the debate, several Democrat senators talked a big pro-life game, but ultimately folded under pressure.  In the end, the voices of the unborn were ignored by a win-at-all costs mentality.

If you have never contacted your Senator before, please do so.  There will be much work to do on this Healthcare bill before it actually becomes law.  Miracles can and do happen, that is why it is so important to let your voice be heard.

Choosing Life’s QUILT RAFFLE:  Director Patty Thees Thanks all RTL Newsletter recipients that purchased the raffle tickets that were enclosed in last months Newsletter.  She reported that the response was GREAT.  There was only one problem.  Several people turned in their tickets and printed an address change.  Unfortunately, several were lost in the shuffle.  If you have an address change, please call the RTL 678-1348 or Ann Schroyer 678-4785, and we will take care of the address change.  Many Thanks.  (P.S. We will post the winner of the Quilt when it is announced.)
