Fortunately, most of the students have contributed $3.00 towards the cost of their shirt, however, if any organization or any individual would like to donate towards this project, we would be grateful. SAFE HAVEN LAW WORKING: Two babies recently dropped off at Columbus fire stations are in foster care and doing well. Thanks to the Safe Haven Law, which Ohio Right to Life lobbied for in 2001 and amended in 2008, more than 70 infants statewide have been surrendered to safety. Under the law, parents are able to surrender their newborns up to 30 days after birth to hospitals, police and firefighters without fear of criminal charges. To learn more, check out the full article at the Columbus Dispatch's web site. OUR NATIONAL HEALTH CARE BILL: With 72% of Americans opposed to abortion funding in health care, on Sunday, March 21st, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 219 to 212 to pass H.R. 3590, the pro-abortion Senate Health Care bill. Many pro-lifers are still frustrated. With everything that so many people did from phone calls, to e-mails, to signing petitions, to visiting Congressional offices, and all the prayers offered, the abortion laden Health Care bill still passed. The backers of this Health Care bill never gave up. They fought for nearly a year against public opinion, and finally wore down their opponents until they got what they wanted. With the help of several so-called pro-life Representatives who caved in and gave the President control over taxpayer funding for abortion. These Congressmen accepted a meaningless promise of an “Executive Order” promising that no federal funds will be used for abortion. That Executive Order is utterly useless, and everybody knows it. The President can revoke it as quickly as he signed it. These Congressmen had to realize that the Executive Order was merely a political cover-up. Those members of Congress that claim to be pro-life and voted for the Health Care Bill are responsible for the largest expansion of federal support for abortion since Roe v. Wade. Pro-lifers should make it clear to them that their vote for this pro-abortion bill was a huge political and moral mistake and will not be forgotten. The November elections will be here before we know it. Any pro-life politician that supported the Health Care bill will ultimately pay the price at the ballot box. Rep. Bart Stupak, the claimed pro-life Democrat who emerged as spokesman and chief negotiator for Democrats who withheld support from Obama’s plan because they feared it would allow public funding for abortion and then caved during the final vote, and has now been targeted for defeat by the Tea Party activists for his role in securing House approval of the health care overhaul, stated that he is retiring after 18 years in Congress now that his main legislative goal has been accomplished. He insists that the Tea Party did not run him out. He said he had considered retirement for years but was persuaded to stay because of the prospect of serving with a Democratic majority and helping win approval of the health care overhaul. He also said he wants to spend more time with his family. His decision comes amid a string of recent retirements by Democrats, including Reps. William Delahunt of MA. and Patrick Kennedy of RI, and Sens. Evan Bayh of IN, Christopher Dodd of CT. and Byron Dorgan of ND. WHAT’S IN A NAME?? A rose by any other name is still a rose, but some organizations are determined to make the pro-life movement appear less than beautiful. In a war on words, National Public Radio’s managing editor, David Sweeney, recently issued an internal memo, instructing reporters to stop saying “pro-life” and instead use the phrase “abortion rights opponents.” And while staffers aren’t permitted to say abortion supporters are “pro-abortion”, they are free to call those of us in the pro-life community “anti-abortion.” It appears the media is bent on framing the murder of the unborn in a friendlier light while casting a negative spin on the pro-life cause. The Associated Press, Washington Post, New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, CNN, CBS, and NBC have all adopted similar terminology.Perhaps the problem isn’t that the words are confusing (most understand the meaning of pro-life), but too upsetting. Pro-abortion people don’t like the idea of being identified with a movement that supports the intentional killing of innocent pre-born children. So – under the guise of neutrality and shielded by the company of their major news organizations, editors recast the debate from life and death to an issue of rights. This is nothing but wordplay, designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, but they’re not fooling anyone. Sugar might make the poison taste better, but it’s still poison.
